Welcome to my Blog, "More Than A Place"

Greetings All:

Welcome to the first blog post of The Berta Real Estate Group (a/k/a, Jeno's Real Estate Blog).  I plan on writing about a number of topics regarding real estate.  Some may be on more technical aspects of real estate, such as interest rates or tax strategies.  Others will be focused on specific listings or opportunities.  Still others may barely touch on real estate.  It is my hope that this blog will inform, entertain, and also give a new perspective on real estate.  I also hope to feature, at least on occasion, the artwork of my daughter, Carly.  (I owe her some ice cream gift cards for the picture I "commissioned" for this blog post.)

Real estate to me is more than simply a place.  It is more than a building, a structure, a plot of grass.  It is where people can live their lives, raise their families and pursue their version of "The American Dream."  For those of you who know me, this is not just some abstract thing.  My Dad literally fought to get to this country in 1956.  Rewind a dozen years to 1944, and his family were forced to live under the tyranny of the Nazis.  (They also performed an act of amazing courage I will write about in a future post.)  Of the many freedoms we have in America, the right to travel, to choose where we will live and work, is one of the most significant.

It is also one of the most practical of freedoms.  Your house is where your life happens.  Your work or profession is how you contribute to society and pay your bills, support your family.  Both of these things are directly related to real estate.

While there are many benefits, many good things about real estate, there can also be pitfalls.  There is no guarantee real estate will appreciate in value.  Case in point, our house in Arizona.  (That will definitely be a future post.)  There are times when the laws surrounding real estate may not make any sense or seem downright unfair.  Such is life.  I do not say that to be callous or cruel.  Instead, I say so to acknowledge a reality of life.  Sometimes even the best, most noble of intentions may not be enough to protect one from the realities of our world.

Yet there are things we can do to protect ourselves and still reap the rewards of real estate.  It is my hope that through this blog I will provide information that is useful in assisting in that endeavor.  I will share with you such information that I deem accurate and meaningful.  I ask you to share your thoughts, your comments, suggestions, and yes, constructive criticism, on my thoughts.  I hope that this blog will not be just a monologue of my thoughts and ideas.  Instead, I'd like it be be a dialogue among people who have an interest in real estate.

I look forward to engaging with you and learning from you.  While we may disagree on ideas, concepts, strategies, and so on, I hope you'll agree with me on one thing:  That real estate is more than just a place.

If so, then I've done my job with this blog.  Thanks for reading.

Best regards,
Jeno Berta
